Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern have gladly welcomed the International break and are hoping for a similar impact as the last one.

Having lost only once since the previous international break, Jurgen Klopp has given holiday rest to some players not involved with their national team. Indeed, it seems he’s also made sure they have fitness and nutrition plans to follow to come back refreshed and re-charged.

While much has been made of Liverpool’s leaky defence this season, the attacking half of the team has been on fire and looks to be getting stronger with every match. The chief barman is hoping that certain individuals up their game over the break really start to push this Liverpool side forward as they start to make the long turn into the home straight of 2018.

With that in mind, our Liverpudlian punters will be hoping these relaxed methods will bring out the best in the players and our landlord believes three players in particular will up their game.

Loris Karius

The Liverpool goalkeeper will be wanting to make use of the international break to try and secure the Reds number one spot.

Klopp has regularly jumped between him and Mignolet this season with neither impressing enough to nail it down on a permanent basis. After a well-used break, Karius could come back stronger and aid Liverpool’s season.

Though Mignolet has improved of late, there is every chance that putting some hard miles in on the training field could see Karius restored.

Joel Matip

Matip has been one of the main sources of criticism this season as Liverpool’s leaky defence has been breached on many occasion. With him and Lovren being at the heart of most matches this year, he’ll want to take full advantage of not playing and brush up on his sharpness and maybe have a look at past matches to not make the same mistakes.

Having retired from international duty, working closely with Klopp at Melwood could really help Matip during the break.

Daniel Sturridge

The Liverpool striker has been out injured and will be looking to try and break back into the team who are looking good in his absence. Out of the picture with England, the break could give Sturridge the chance to get his game back in and impress Klopp with some hard work on the training ground.

He’s never been fully trusted by Klopp, though few would doubt his quality, meaning he has it all to prove over the next week or so.
