We here at the Football Transfer Tavern have been very impressed with the start that Middlesbrough have made on their return to the Premier League.
They look worth the wait with making some cracking little signings, especially the loan of experienced Spanish forward Alvaro Negredo.
Aitor Karanka has worked wonders at the Riverside since his arrival, and with his links to Real Madrid, it’s easy to see how he has styled the way his side plays.
With that they still have a number of players in their squad, who have been looked past either by other Premier League clubs or by teams abroad.
They have formed a great side and it showed as they finally got the better of the Championship.
With Boro not being one of the ‘bigger’ clubs in the top flight a lot of their players get over looked or don’t get the credit they deserve or the plaudits, because they are not one of the so called ‘bigger’ clubs.
Here are the THREE players we here in the Transfer Tavern feel are most underrated currently in the Boro squad….
Adam Forshaw
The 24-year-old got his chance thus far this year due to an injury to Grant Leadbitter, and has not looked at all out of place, filling some big boots in the heart of the Boro midfield.
He was a stand out star in their derby victory over Sunderland, and will cause some selection issues when Leadbitter; the club’s captain returns to fitness.
With a change in the philosophy on the England side now under Big Sam, it seems he will pick players off the back of form rather than by reputation of the player; perhaps this is a name to look out for.
Gaston Ramirez
The Uruguayan midfielder has had a rather underwhelming start to life in English football, after not quite making his mark at Southampton and being rather unused in a Hull City side that was relegated from the Premier League.
However after spending last year on-loan at the Riverside Stadium, he seemed to show the talent we saw from him in Italy and at International level.
He was a key factor in their promotion last term and has proven to be an asset for them thus far this term.
George Friend
The full-back has been a key player in the opening fixtures for Boro, and the stand in captain who was plying his trade at Doncaster only four years ago.
He has made a big step from there to become a quality defender in a Middlesbrough side that won promotion last term.
The 28-year-old will be key in any kind of success that his side wishes to have this term, and will be a vital part of the team and over the course of the season will hopefully be recognised by pundits.
