Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for a better summer window than that of last season’s pair of disasters. If Chelsea are to pick themselves back up from what has been a terrible end to a promising campaign, they need to become a little more ruthless in the transfer market – so our regulars think.

Chelsea have been struggling in all competitions since the turn of the year, Antonio Conte’s future has been up in the air and the team are playing with none of that Conte touchline fire in their belly. Things have to change for next season and our regulars believe being a little bit more aggressive in the transfer market would aid the cause.

If Chelsea want to fight again for the title, then a couple of key areas have to be addressed in order to strengthen the team. Furthermore, one of the main aims according to our barman is to keep hold of star Belgian Eden Hazard, who has yet to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues in the pub have had their dreams of Chelsea refinding their form and getting in the top-four before the end of the season dashed, after only three wins so far this year in the league, with them now having to settle for another season out of the Champions League.

Change is needed this summer in the form of refreshed look down at SW6 – and Abramovich needs to bring Conte these 3 players…

Harry Maguire

With club captain Gary Cahill ageing and not having the best of seasons so far, it could be time to look for a replacement for the England man to create a new, young and exciting defensive partnership with Andreas Christensen.

None come better at the moment than the Foxes’ Harry Maguire. He is destined for a move to a top-six club soon and Chelsea would do well to try and beat all their rivals for his signature.

A powerful and consistent centre-half, Maguire is crucially homegrown, which would be a rarity at the Blues and would offer Conte a long-term solution to his central defensive problems.

Nabil Fekir

The French playmaker is having his best season to date in Ligue 1 with Lyon, the 24-year-old is certainly creating a buzz in the French League with his sparkling attacking displays. So far this season, he has helped himself to 21 goals and six assists in the league, in just 34 appearances.

Perhaps the French influence of Kante and Giroud could turn Fekir from a relative unknown outside of Ligue 1 to a Blues fan favourite for seasons to come.

Ciro Immobile

Chelsea need more options up front – that’s for sure, and at present Alvaro Morata is struggling in the English game. Ciro Immobile is having a barnstorming season in Serie A for Lazio, averaging near enough a goal a game and looking in red-hot form.

With Conte’s links to Italy, he could certainly get the most out of the Italian forward and surely give Morata and Giroud extra motivation to up their levels. Next year is a big year, as teams around Chelsea start to get stronger, and Chelsea need to keep up.

Conte clearly isn’t content with the options at his disposal, given that he has regularly opted to play a false nine formation at times, and so this would no doubt please the boss.
