These 3 Southampton January targets would light up St Mary’s if they sign

Any transfer window strikes fear into Saints fans in the Transfer Tavern and this January looks to be no different…

Claude Puel’s men currently sit in the middle of the Premier League table following a tricky festive period which will, no doubt, lead to the Frenchman dipping into the transfer market.

Alongside this, the Saints are notoriously known for their rebuilding skills – with the January window likely to bring a few moves to prize away some of Southampton’s best players. Our landlord certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Southampton in the same rebuilding phase that they have become all too familiar with as of late.

Up until the festive period, Southampton had been sound defensively and the main focus of this transfer window may well be to hold on to as many players as possible as opposed to gaining reinforcements.

However, their hand may be forced if players leave and our landlord expects Southampton to be active in the January transfer window – possibly by signing THESE 3 targets…

Fabian Schar

With concerns over Jose Fonte reaching fever pitch, Southampton will undoubtedly have to look at bringing in a bit of depth in the centre of the defence, and a reported move for Fabian Schar could be on the cards.

A defender comfortable with the ball at his feet, Schar is a very modern centre-half – and Puel will undoubtedly look for him to play from the back.

The Swiss international impressed at Euro 2016 and has seemingly caught the eye of the Southampton boss as he prepares for the potential loss of one of his first choice centre-backs.

Jacob Murphy

Former Canary Nathan Redmond has made a strong impact with Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern and our landlord would not be surprised to see the Saints go back to Norwich for their next big star, Jacob Murphy.

The 21-year-old winger has made a stunning impact in Norwich’s promotion push as they look to regain top flight status and Murphy’s performances have reportedly caught the Saints’ eye as they look to fend off competition for his signature from the likes of Liverpool and Everton.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Murphy would add a dose of pace and power to the Southampton attack.

Kevin Wimmer

Claude Puel is also reportedly keen on Austrian international Kevin Wimmer.

The 24-year-old Spurs defender does have Premier League experience and is struggling for game time behind Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier in the current Tottenham squad.

This could well be a move that benefits all parties, allowing Tottenham to make some money on a squad player, whilst also allowing Wimmer more game time and giving Southampton a chance to recruit a top defender.
