Winning the title in every season without fail for the last 6 years, its beginning to become a video game for the Scottish side. However, what makes it more impressive is the fact that domestically Rodgers has taken the side on a record-breaking run, as they to this date, are 63 games unbeaten.

In storming the league every season and improving under their coach, the Bhoys in our bar have been delighted to watch Champions League nights return to Parkhead. While they’ve had some difficult groups in the last few years, the Hoops are certainly progressing on the European front.

Still, with their domestic success pretty much being the norm its time that they changed their ambitions to the Champions League, as a string of high-class signings could see them pose more of a threat. But with them having leaked goals to the quality opposition that they’ve appeared against so far, it is a vital talking point at the possibility of signing an established defender to sure things up.

So as Rodgers heads into the January window, here are 3 signings for him to ponder…

Charly Musonda

The Belgian midfield has been the subject of criticism with his beloved Chelsea after some controversial comments on social media about the lack of opportunity given to be in the first team. However, since settling down after the reports, he has made 2 cup appearances for the London based club.

Still, after being linked to a loan deal with the Scottish club it looks like to could be set to become a reality.

Offering a great fast-paced attacking intent, he is utilized anywhere across the front 3 as he provides a very diverse style of play. After securing the services of Scott Sinclair from the Premier League, he’s set the Scottish Premiership a light as both he and Musonda shared the same potential as youngsters.

Celtic can offer the midfielder some Champions League experience and regular first-team football to give the young Belgian a real chance to stage his brilliance. As he brings pace, aggression, skill and trickery in abundance which could really rocket Celtic’s attack to the next level.

Martin Caceres

The Uruguayan central defender seems to have been around forever, as he chops and changes his clubs on the regular. At the age of 30, the centre-back still has plenty of life in him as he continues to perform at a consistent rate. Now currently playing in the Serie A for Verona, it looks like the international is never short of a move away.

Celtic have been lacklustre on the defensive front in the Champions League so far this season, as they let in a whopping 8 goals in 3 games.

That’s where this man can potentially step in, as he provides them with the Champions League experience of being with Juventus and Barcelona, while utilizing his pace, strength and aerial ability to gain an upper edge on his opponents. In signing Caceres, they’d be acquiring a defender who can not only provide experience but can secure the defensive line not only in Europe but also domestically.

Domagoj Vida

The Croatian international plays his football for Ukranian side Dynamo Kiev, plying his trade as a central defender. Another man who has a sense of European experience about him as he helps his side to a second place position in a rather difficult domestic league.

Having signed the relatively unknown Simunovic from an Eastern European market, it could be tempting to go back in for someone who is arguably more proven and established for club and country.

In having 48 appearances for his country at the age of 28, he certainly can guarantee the experience. The versatile central defender is best known for his aggression as he uses this to his advantage, posing an aerial threat, increased burst of speed and a terrier-like approach, he really can cause problems for the oppositions forwards.

His contract is set to expire at the end of 2017, so if the Hoops are to acquire his services then they will need to get on his case.
