Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their current form can continue into the New Year as they look to keep up with leaders Man City.

The Blues have had a strong finish to the year as they temporarily leapfrogged Man United in the league over the Christmas period. The current Premier League champions, however impossible it may look at the moment, will be aiming to catch leaders Manchester City and regain their title come the end of the season.

However, a strong transfer window is needed if such a feat is going to happen. Conte must surely want to add in additional firepower up-front to take the pressure of Alvaro Morata and a little strengthening in the centre of the park, where most of the season, the Chelsea boss has struggled with injuries.

Our punters and landlord have been taking a look at three players who Conte must be urging Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to get in the Stamford Bridge doors…

Richmond Boakye

The Ghanian striker has already impressed Antonio Conte once before, with the Italian bringing him to his Juventus side. Only for him to be sent out on loan and since then he’s moved to a fair few clubs, but his last move to Red Star is where he’s found his level.

His goalscoring exploits in the Europa League has got some of the European clubs taking a look at the striker in a little more depth, with Conte’s options thin on the ground at the moment and already knowing about this player, this could be a beneficial move all around.

Daniel Sturridge

The England striker is reported to be seeking a move away from Liverpool, in a move to boost his World Cup chances come the summer. A move back to his former club might sound unrealistic, but if Conte can get Sturridge fit and avoiding the little niggles that have seen him drop down the Anfield pecking order, he could have a dangerous striker within his ranks.

The Sturridge from Liverpool’s 2013/14 season is still there, and his ability to grab a goal from the unlikeliest of situations and angles makes the England man a player that shouldn’t be overlooked.

It could be a shrewd move on the Italians part.

Arturo Vidal

If Conte is looking for a midfield general in a bid to strengthen his options, no-one comes more commanding than Chilean enforcer Arturo Vidal. The Bayern Munich man is currently reported to be unsettled at the Allianz Arena and seeking a move away, with Conte having worked with him before.

A move to bring the 30-year-old to the Bridge could be a stroke of genius in regards to Chelsea’s season, such is his gut-busting nature of getting up and down the field.

An exceptional box-to-box midfielder, the former Juventus man has seen and done it all at the top of European football and certainly has the tools to shine under Conte once again.
