Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are loving the upturn in form in recent months as they see their team find the net on several occasions and climb the league.

The defensive issues that were there at the start of the season seem to have settled slightly over recent games and Virgil van Dijk is now on board at long last. With our regulars watching them keep many a clean sheet, since the humiliating defeat to Spurs, life is good amongst our resident Reds. Still, many of the plaudits have gone towards their attacking play, in particular, the ‘Fab Four’ and Mo Salah is looking like an absolute bargain of a buy.

Despite the clear abundance of talent up-front, many of our punters believe that Klopp still needs to address the issue at the back end of the team, despite the recent £75m signing of van Dijk.

Getting some squad depth would help their fight on any type of trophy front. Therefore with the winter window now open, the Liverpool board need to give the green light to these three players and our landlord thinks that these could be key to the Reds’ season…

Thomas Lemar

Although not a defender, the Monaco star can play in the middle of the park and down either wing. This would create another shield in front of the back line or let a player play a little deeper to let the attacking half of the team do what it needs to do.

Lemar wouldn’t come cheap but if Liverpool want to fight and seriously challenge it out with the big boys of the League and Europe, a player like this could prove crucial.

A truly wonderful talent, Lemar would help take the Reds to another level.

Jean Seri

Surely, if Klopp can win the battle for Jean Seri against a host of top European clubs including Man City, Barcelona and PSG to name a few. Perhaps it could signal the end of current captain Jordan Henderson’s time at the club, something that’d go down well in certain sections of the Tavern!

Seri’s a great passer of the ball, dynamic and a creative player and that would surely be an upgrade to what they currently have in the centre of the park. If FSG can get this one over the line, it could transform Liverpool and really set them up for a strong second half of the season.

Leon Goretzka

The 22-year-old midfielder has impressed for club and country, and with his agent denying any move to Bayern Munich has been agreed for the summer, Liverpool could be able to pick up the German at a cut-price this January.

Despite a recent injury, Liverpool may push through a move to fend off competition from rival clubs. Goretzka is one of the brightest young talents in the Bundesliga and would certainly improve this Liverpool side, as well as deprive any of their rivals the chance to land him.
