The resident Hammers in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to claim some positive results in the next few weeks and steer clear of a relegation scrap.

After being seriously threatened with relegation during the early part of the season, the West Ham hierarchy were forced to make a bold decision with the sacking of Slaven Bilic, and so far it looks to have been the correct decision. David Moyes has since stepped into the hot seat at The London Stadium and successfully managed to take West Ham out of the relegation zone, albeit by just two points at this moment in time.

There is still plenty of work to do for Moyes to carry West Ham into the safety of mid-table obscurity, and the next few weeks could prove pivotal in determining the outcome of the club’s season.

Two months in charge at the club has given Moyes plenty of time to identify the positions which are most in need of improvement, and according to reports in The Independent, The Hammers boss is targeting a left-winger this month, namely Scott Arfield.

Although Arfield’s transfer is unlikely to send the West Ham fans into raptures, a move for the Burnley winger could represent a very shrewd piece of business for the club.

The Canadian international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season which will naturally bring his stock right down this month.

The report claims that West Ham will offer a fee in the region of £2 million for his services, however, Moyes will need to spend more money and add further quality to his squad this month if he wants to give the club the best possible chance of staying in the top-flight this season.

With that being said, here are two players who could follow Arfield to West Ham by the end of the window…

Michy Batshuayi

West Ham are yet to hit the ground running in front of goal so far this season, so Moyes should be looking to bring a striker to the club this month.

Michy Batshuayi will almost certainly be out of The Hammers price range in terms of a permanent deal, but a loan deal could prove to be a mutually beneficial agreement for Chelsea and West Ham.

The Belgian’s time at the club looks all but over judging by the fact that Batshuayi is unable to break into the first-team in West London, even when there are no other natural strikers available to Antonio Conte.

After being hung out to dry at Chelsea, Batshuayi will feel as if he has a point to prove to the footballing world, so Moyes should sign him on loan and provide him with an opportunity to silence his doubters.

Jonjo Shelvey

The options available to David Moyes in the centre of midfield are all fairly similar in their style of play.

The Hammers are lacking a creative influence in midfield who can dictate the play from deep and execute incisive forward passes into dangerous areas of the pitch.

But West Ham can rectify this issue with the signing of Shelvey from Newcastle this month.

Although it is unlikely that Rafa Benitez will be willing to sell to a fellow relegation candidate during the mid-season window, he could be persuaded into a deal due to Shelvey’s questionable disciplinary record of late.
