This summer looks to have burst into life for Newcastle United with just nine days left until deadline day. The Magpies look close to signing Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto this summer, however, according to an exclusive from le10sport, Thiago Maia could be joining the Geordies on a loan with a 25 million euro option to buy at the end of this season.

Thiago Maia is fresh off the back of his first season in Europe after signing for LOSC Lille from Santos last summer. The 21-year-old midfield man played 34 times in Ligue 1 last season and despite the fact he failed to score a goal or register an assist in the league he did bag a single goal in the Coupe de France in his one game in the competition. The midfielder is more of a defensive option and would provide a good option for Rafa Benitez.
Last season saw Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame strike up a serious partnership as a double pivot in the middle of Newcastle’s midfield, however, if Maia joined the club he would be a brilliant option to have to bring on from the bench from one of Shelvey or Diame to see out the game. The Brazilian would also be a perfect replacement for Isaac Hayden who wants to leave the club for family reasons.

Just from these tweets, you can see that the fans aren’t too worried about the Maia links and don’t believe that the Brazilian will be joining this summer.
