Out of the teams that finished within the top six last season in the Premier League, Arsenal had the worst defensive record – a clear indication of the team’s troubles. The North London club finished the league campaign having conceded 44 goals, the highest total in the top six, and an area of the pitch that requires vast improvement.
In two league games this season, the Gunners have already conceded four goals – three of which came on the opening day of the new Premier League season against Leicester City. Arsenal will never be able to compete for the title if they don’t address their defensive issues.
Our landlord has highlighted Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte as a defensive solution for Arsene Wenger’s team. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in world football.
The Frenchman is incredibly proficient while competing in aerial duels. Additionally – as is the case with many La Liga players – his passing ability is excellent. In addition to these two qualities, his tackling and intercepting skills are also mightily impressive, and he isn’t afraid to play with the ball at his feet.
Despite being 23, Laporte has amassed considerable first-team experience, registering 236 senior club appearances, 195 of which have been for Bilbao. Our landlord believes that Wenger should do everything in his power to certify that Laporte becomes an Arsenal player this summer.
