Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking to Diego Simeone as who they would like to possibly replace Antonio Conte if his time is up at the club.

The Italian hasn’t had the best of seasons so far and even more so a 2018 and, it seems to our regulars, that the curse of winning the Premier League is striking again. In recent seasons, many of the managers that have won the title have been dismissed the season after and it’s looking like Conte is going to follow suit this year also.

So far this year, Conte has only won three games in the Premier League, slipped out of the top-four, knocked out of the Carabao Cup semi-final by rivals Arsenal and the Champions League by Barcelona recently, and the pressure cooker of Stamford Bridge has really heated up. Much has been made of a new man coming into the fold to take over at the helm, but it seems, for now, they are sticking with Conte.

Indeed, Diego Simeone would be a good replacement given his track record at Atletico Madrid, and some of our punters feel that Chelsea should be considering him to take over ASAP for these TWO reasons…

Time for a change

The Atletico Madrid boss has spent over five years at the helm and could be looking for a change soon. A fresh challenge and a club that mirrors his current side but with a bigger budget would surely wet the appetite of Simeone, who has surely taken Los Rojiblancos as far as he can.

Two Champions League finals, a La Liga title and what is looking like a second Europa League crown is an amazing haul, after all.  With that in mind, Chelsea would gain a lot from the Argentine and he seems in a similar mould with his touchline manner and intensity to his game, to current boss Conte.

Tactical Nous

Simeone’s ability to reach two Champions League finals, win La Liga and challenge every year in Spain, with a squad that doesn’t mirror Real Madrid or Barcelona, is a testament to his managerial capabilities and would be a huge fan favourite with the Chelsea faithful.

Seemingly ideal for Chelsea, Simeone would help restore the ridiculously solid base of the early Jose Mourinho tenure, as well as get the best out of their current crop of attackers.
