Our Chelsea fans here inside the Transfer Tavern are hoping that boss Antonio Conte will start to give youth a chance in the final part of the season, especially as Champions League football is out of reach now for next season.
Chelsea aren’t really known for giving their youth academy players a chance in recent years, often opting to send them out on loan to gain experience. Despite the very small number of successful players coming through the loan system, many will want to emulate the former club captain John Terry’s rise from youth to Chelsea legend, who set the perfect blueprint.
Sometimes, the loan system works for the Blues but many a time the loanees are shipped out to clubs in the Championship and below in order to earn a start in their career. However, our landlord thinks he’s spotted two players that have gone out the Stamford Bridge door at a young age and will return better players with the ultimate goal of breaking into the first team this year and really making a name for themselves.
While Conte struggles with his threadbare and demoralised squad, now could be the best time to make the Chelsea boss stand up and take note. Our regulars take a look at the TWO future stars…
Lewis Baker

With the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tammy Abraham and now Liverpool player Dominic Solanke all earning an England call-up over the year, Chelsea’s youth system certainly has the talent in it. One of their products, Lewis Baker, is currently out on loan with Middlesbrough and is another who can be seen as a future Three Lions star.
A wonderful talent, who with a run of games in the second tier of English football can help him develop into a mainstay of the Blues team for many years to come.
Trevor Chalobah

The younger and potentially better brother of Watford’s Nathaniel, Chalobah has a lot of qualities to make it at the top level. He can play as either a centre-back or a centre midfielder, however, it seems that defence is where he feels at home with probably his best performances.
Furthermore, with the possible departures of Cahill and Luiz, now could be a good a time as any to spotlight himself.
Standing at 6’2 he is tall, good on the ball and very quick, all useful traits of course. Chalobah looks like a very good prospect for the future and could be a useful asset for Conte in the final part of the season.
