Tighten things up: Chelsea should consider moving for 1 of these 3 defenders this month

Chelsea fans here at the Transfer Tavern are still drinking in celebration over their convincing title win, but where can their team improve?

Chelsea don’t have much room for improvement defensively, given that they conceded the third least amount of goals all season long only falling behind Manchester United and Tottenham.

Antonio Rudiger’s transfer from Roma to Stamford Bridge shows that Conte is looking to bolster his defence and with Gary Cahill and David Luiz 31 and 30-years-old respectively, the Italian boss will most likely be looking to add more young defenders for the future.

Whilst he won’t want to break the bank given that the Rudiger deal already cost around £34 million, there are a few young defenders out there who Conte could pick up for a relatively low cost, who could turn into a world class defender sooner rather than later.

With that being said, Chelsea should consider making a move for one of these three defenders, before the transfer window shuts….

Benjamin Henrichs

A key member of Bayern Leverkusen’s line up and a Confederations Cup winner recently with the German national side, Benjamin Henrichs will one day be a top-class full back.

With the ability to play as a midfielder, Henrichs would fit in perfectly with Conte’s current system and if he were to join, it probably wouldn’t be too long before he made his way into the first team.

If they’re young, German, and playing regular first team football, sign them up!

Emanuel Mammana

Emanuel Mammana suffered his fair share of injuries last season which meant he wasn’t able to perform at a consistent level all season.

Due to that fact, it is unlikely that any of Europe’s top clubs will be looking to sign the young Argentinian centre back.

However, should Mammana get a full season under his belt and perform at the level that many think he can perform at, then he might just be one for the future.

Jairo Riedewald

Our landlord says it a lot and he’s saying it again, a young player playing for Ajax is most likely going to be a great buy.

Obviously, it isn’t as simple as that but Jairo Riedewald is a very talented defender.

He only featured 16 times for Ajax in the league last season due to being the backup choice at centre back, but he did play 82 minutes in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Should he be given a proper chance to shine, and more time with devoted coaching, he could turn into something special.
