Chelsea supporters are still teeming with joy following Conte’s title success, now the Blues fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are expecting a busy transfer window.
The Blues have been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far, yet, Chelsea’s transfer activity is projected to gather speed with the club’s £900m deal with Nike kicking in this month. Our landlord has been discussing with many of our resident Chelsea fans who say that the club hadn’t been able to sign anyone before the 1st of July due to the incoming Nike deal, and they’re anxiously anticipating a flurry of transfers now it’s out of the way.
Even though the club has yet to acquire a transfer target, a whole host of talented players have been prized with a move to the splendour of South West London, as Conte looks to assemble a team to retain his Premier League crown and launch a quest for European glory.
Our landlord has decided to look at two deals that could be completed by the end of next week…
Tiemoué Bakayoko
This particular rumour has been circulating for the majority of the Summer, yet Chelsea seems destined to sign the 22-year-old from French Champions Monaco. The Sun reports that the midfielder has undergone his medical and the transfer is nearing its completion.
Bakayoko played an instrumental role in a Monaco side that were crowned Ligue 1 Champions and reached the semi-final of the Champions League. The Frenchman made 51 appearances in all competitions for Monaco last season and has amassed 120 appearances throughout the duration of his career. A fee of £35M has reportedly been agreed, and while that figure does seem rather significant for a player who only has one international cap to his name, Bakayoko’s talent is undeniable.
He predominantly features as a defensive midfielder, and he’s renowned for his exemplary tackling ability and his intercepting qualities. In a similar manner to former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, Bakayoko can drive forward with the ball, and our landlord believes that this is an exciting transfer for followers of the Premier League.
Willy Caballero
While this transfer may not prompt as much excitement or intrigue as the arrival of Tiemoué Bakayoko, there is no denying that Caballero’s arrival is necessary. Asmir Begovic has joined Bournemouth in a £10M deal leaving Chelsea devoid of a backup goalie, and seemingly the Argentine is set to become Chelsea’s new number 2.
The Daily Mail report that Caballero will sign with Chelsea as soon as he’s passed his medical. Rumour has it that the Champions have negated the interest of Newcastle United and Boca Juniors in the race to sign the experienced goalkeeper. He has amassed plenty of Premier League experience having played 47 games for Manchester City in the league, and he’s established himself as a reliable shot-stopper – particularly his ability to save penalties.
Despite being five years older than Begovic, our landlord believes that this is a solid acquisition for the Blues, albeit it doesn’t provide long-term cover.
