The Swans have appeared in the Transfer Tavern today and will be hoping for a much more convincing season next time out.
Finishing in 15th position last season doesn’t reflect how poor Swansea were at times last season, only just avoiding relegation.
Paul Clement will have a tough job of keeping the Swans up next season, especially if they sell Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton.
That job will only be made all the more difficult by not selling certain players at the club.
Our landlord has said it before and he is saying it again, selling players can be just as important as buying players.
Getting rid of the dead wood at your club can be the difference between a successful season and potential relegation.
With that being said, here are two players who will hold Swansea back next season, if Clement keeps them at the club.
Wayne Routledge
Wayne Routledge burst onto the scene back in 2002 as a fresh faced 17-year-old making his starting debut for Crystal Palace against Wolves and scoring after just one minute.
The future looked bright for the young winger who moved to Spurs in 2005 and saw his career go downhill.
Now aged 32, he just doesn’t offer what he used to in the Premier League and with only one year remaining on his contract, perhaps Clement should let him run that down in the reserves.
Ki Sung-Yueng
When he joined from Celtic back in 2012, Ki Sung-Yueng looked like he could be the star Swansea needed to take their game to the next level.
For a time, he was just that. Easily Swansea’s best player or one of them at least, Sung-Yueng’s career at Swansea hit a bit of a brick wall last season when injuries hampered him.
There is no saying he can’t come back from these recurring injuries but if Swansea cash in on the Icelandic and the South Korean, think of the cash they could reinvest into the squad.
Might be worth the risk.
