Football.London’s Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold revealed he is not convinced by Jose Mourinho’s handling of Tanguy Ndombele, after the manager blasted the Frenchman’s performance against Burnley.
Tottenham missed another chance to gain ground on the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United on Saturday, with both of the sides above them not playing until Sunday.
Mourinho’s men fell behind early at Turf Moor as Burnley pounced on some chaotic defending, with Chris Wood sliding in to poke home after Hugo Lloris spilled a long-distance shot. Dele Alli equalised from the penalty spot after the break, but fans will certainly look at it as two points dropped in the end.
One man who failed to impress yet again was Ndombele, playing just 45 minutes before he was hauled off, completing 27 passes in his time on the pitch. Mourinho responded after the match, saying the £53.8m (BBC) man has to give more to the team and that they ‘didn’t have a midfield’ in the first half, leading Gold to question whether it is the right approach.
Mourinho digging out Tanguy Ndombele after the game is very different to the Pochettino way. He didn’t look awful today but he’s nowhere near the £64m player Spurs paid for. I’m not a massive fan of the public slating but something’s got to give him a kick up the backside.

Only time will tell if Mourinho’s words are indeed the ‘kick up the backside’ that the former Lyon man needs, but one thing is for sure, time is fast running out for Spurs to challenge for the Champions League places. The trip to RB Leipzig presents a brilliant opportunity to stop the rot, could Mourinho test his man-management by throwing Ndombele straight back in?
