Tottenham Hotspur know significant improvements are required this summer if they are to avoid another campaign spent looking over their shoulder.
Spurs only secured their Premier League status on the final day of last season, highlighting just how far standards had slipped in north London. The appointment of Roberto De Zerbi has brought renewed optimism, with the Italian tasked with restoring stability and competitiveness at the club.
Early business has already seen experienced defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson arrive on free transfers, but De Zerbi is keen to add more quality throughout the squad.
And it now appears that another major signing could be edging closer.
Spurs Advancing Savinho Deal
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are making progress in negotiations for Manchester City winger Savinho, with a deal worth around £60 million currently under discussion.
The Brazil international, previously described as “incredible” by Pep Guardiola, has long been admired by Spurs and was interested in a move to north London last summer before Manchester City blocked any potential transfer.
At the time, City were demanding more than £70 million and were reluctant to sanction a sale as they assessed their own attacking options.
Fast forward 12 months, and Tottenham have returned with renewed determination.
Discussions are ongoing over the structure of the package, with add-ons and performance-related bonuses expected to form part of the final agreement. While no deal has been completed yet, negotiations are understood to be moving in a positive direction.
Savinho would add much-needed pace, creativity and unpredictability to De Zerbi’s frontline. Despite Tottenham’s survival, goals and attacking consistency were major issues throughout last season, making reinforcements in wide areas a priority.
