Tottenham Hotspur ‘confident’ they can complete deal for “excellent” Italy international

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer rebuild is gathering serious momentum under Roberto De Zerbi.

The North London club have already strengthened their defence with the free-transfer arrivals of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, while a deal worth around €60 million has reportedly been completed for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke.

Having focused heavily on the back line, Spurs are now looking to reinforce the middle of the pitch—and they appear to have identified their priority target.

Spurs ‘Confident’ of Signing Tonali

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham remain optimistic they can strike a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali despite seeing an opening £75 million offer rejected.

The Italy international, described as “excellent” by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders and is attracting significant interest ahead of the summer window.

Spurs are expected to return with an improved proposal in the coming days as De Zerbi pushes to bring the 26-year-old to North London. The club are keen to move quickly in the market after missing out on several targets in previous transfer windows due to delays in negotiations.

Tonali is understood to be open to the prospect of working under fellow Italian De Zerbi, although Arsenal are believed to be his preferred destination should the Premier League champions decide to formalise their interest. Manchester City are also monitoring the situation closely.

Newcastle remain reluctant to part with one of their most influential players, but Tottenham’s determination to strengthen their squad shows no sign of fading. With further talks expected, this could become one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
