With just 11 days left of the winter transfer window, things are stated to get heated in the Football Transfer Tavern and the latest speculation has caused quite a stir in the bar this evening.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is understood to have outlined a move to re-sign Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov as he looks to strengthen his striking options, according to The Mirror.
Spurs are set to be short in attack with Jermain Defoe heading to the MLS with Toronto FC, leaving the Lilywhites with just Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado for head coach Tim Sherwood to choose from.
The paper now suggests Levy is looking at a short-term deal worth £1.5 million for the former Bulgarian international, who previously spent two successful years at White Hart Lane and only has six months left on his deal at Craven Cottage.
However, it seems that newly-appointed boss Tim Sherwood didn’t share the same belief, with the 42-year-old thinking that the club don’t need any more strikers who could unsettle Adebayor’s fine recent form having emerged as the main man up top.
He has reportedly told Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini that he is happy to finish the season with the current strikers at his disposal.
Sherwood stated: “Everyone knows Berba. He is proven in this division.
“He is a Fulham player and I am not sure what they are thinking about that. But we have options to take us through to the end of the season.”
Berbatov scored 46 goals in his 102 appearances for Spurs, before signing for Manchester United in the summer of 2008 in a £30.75 million deal.
The 32-year-old striker has also been linked with North London rivals Arsenal in recent weeks with the Craven Cottage club prepared to let him leave during the current transfer window and his agent admitting that his client would be willing to move.
