Tottenham fans have got a huge summer awaiting them in the next few months. They have no World Cup to worry about and will hopefully have a full squad for pre-season as a summer shakeup is expected. One player who could be set to leave is Toby Alderweireld, although according to The Sun, the defender could still negotiate a new deal.
[@SunSport] now understands Tottenham Hotspur are considering the possibility of re-entering in contract negotiations with Toby Alderweireld.
Spurs are keen to remove the clause that would allow the defender to leave the club for just £25M.#THFC #COYSpic.twitter.com/GVNdxLQQcR

The fact that Toby Alderweireld could leave for a meagre fee of just £25 million is frankly ludicrous. The defender has failed to renew his contract in North London, and whilst it was set to expire this summer, a one-year extension clause was activated which also triggered the aforementioned release clause. However, should a new deal be agreed then the Belgian could have that release clause scrapped.
According to The Sun’s article, not only are Spurs willing to renew a new deal, but the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are all keen to jump in and poach the Belgian from Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the cut-price fee this summer. The chances of Alderweireld leaving are looking hight at the moment, though, and it will be a sad day in North London should he leave.

The Lilywhites want nothing more than to sign Alderweireld up to a bumper new deal with no release clause, and as far as they’re concerned it should be Daniel Levy’s main priority.
