Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to Jesper Gronkjaer’s comments on Donny van de Beek

Former Ajax winger Jesper Gronkjaer has stated that Donny van de Beek should join Tottenham over Barcelona or Real Madrid, according to Goal via @TranSPURS

Just days after Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar revealed that the midfielder will be allowed to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena, Gronkjaer suggested the Netherlands international should move to the Premier League.

Speaking to football correspondent Nizaar Kinsella, the ex-Denmark player said; “For his style of play alone, clubs like Tottenham or Chelsea would be a better fit. He is a big guy, box-to-box and takes good long shots.”

Having broken into Erik ten Hag’s first team from the famed academy ranks, Van de Beek has established himself as one of Europe’s brightest stars, making 23 appearances in the Eredivisie for the Amsterdam outfit, scoring eight goals, providing five assists, taking 1.9 shots per game, averaging 1.8 key passes, and successfully completing at least one dribble on average in the Dutch top flight this season (per WhoScored).

The 23-year-old has also shown he is more than capable of holding his own against some of the biggest teams in the world, playing five games in this season’s Champions League, bagging two goals and picking up one assist (WhoScored).

Naturally, many of the Tottenham faithful weighed in on Gronkjaer’s comments online, with one fan admitting they “would love to have him”.
