Tottenham may have won the game and claimed all three points against Burnley yesterday, but it certainly wasn’t routine. The Lilywhites were continually frustrated by the Clarets, and Erik Lamela was one who was particulalry poor during the win, with a lot of Spurs fans slating the Argentine as he was finally hooked by Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham fans seem to have a love-hate relationship with Erik Lamela. The ex-Roma man can often be the missing spark in this Tottenham side and when he performs, he reaslly turns it on. However, when he’s not up to those levels he can never find a middle-ground, leading to him being a passenger in the Lilywhites’ hard-wroking side, so it’s easy to understand the fans’ frustrations with the attacker.
Yesterday was a huge low point for the 26-year-old. He could have won the game for Tottenham had he been able to generate more power on his snapshot from the edge of the six-yard box, but he got nothing behind his effort and Joe Hart was able to claw it out from underneath him. If he had scored he may have saved himself the blushes from his shocker, and it’s fair to say that after his Wembley woes he won’t be trusted to start on Wednesday in the 2nd North London derby of the season.

Lamela is garbage today. Why wait so long to take him out?
