Loads of Spurs fans have been left furious by the performance of Jan Vertonghen, as the Belgium international lost the ball 25 times against Burnley.
With Manchester United and Chelsea not playing until Sunday, Tottenham had a golden chance to gain ground in the race for the top four at Turf Moor. Unfortunately for Jose Mourinho’s men however, they could only muster up a point after goals from Chris Wood and Dele Alli cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw.
Wood had pounced on some confusion at the back after a shot from Jay Rodriguez was spilled by Hugo Lloris, before Alli levelled things in the second half from the penalty spot.
Vertonghen was deployed as a left-wing-back with Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez occupying the central spots, and it’s fair to say the 32 year-old is struggling on the flank. Whether it’s down to a lack of pace or a lack of confidence, the fan favourite always looks a step behind, completing just 69% of his passes and losing the ball 25 times (Sofascore).
