Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold reveals more international worry

Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has dropped a worrying claim on the saga around Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez.

The Lowdown: Trio worries

Both Lo Celso and Romero started in Argentina’s abounded World Cup qualifying game with Brazil on Sunday and both face fines from their employers.

On Monday, Gold shared a statement by the official Argentina national team’s Twitter page that stated both players wouldn’t be involved in the game with Bolivia and have returned to their club.

Gold also stated that the three players would miss the Premier League tie with Crystal Palace this Monday and next Thursday’s Conference League opener with French side Rennes.

The Latest: Gold looks to the future

After calling the situation at Spurs a ‘farcical mess‘ on Monday, Gold has now provided another update on the situation.

On Twitter, the Football London correspondent replied to a Tottenham fan by saying: “You realise there are three international breaks before the end of November all currently with the same situation?”

With Argentina and Columbia still on the red-list, this situation could next arise again when Argentina prepare to face Paraguay, Uruguay and Peru in October.

The Verdict: Continuous problem

Whilst there is an argument that the players should listen to what the clubs say – they pay their wages after all – most players love representing their nation and are, clearly, willing to break the rules to do so.

But from a Tottenham perspective, losing Sanchez, who has started every top flight game so far this season, would be a massive blow. The defender averaged 2.46 tackles per 90 last year, with over six clearances a game.

Lo Celso and Romero are yet to start in the league as of yet, but the latter was of course signed to come in and be the star man in defence, so missing both him and Sanchez for considerable time as we approach the hectic winter schedule could become a huge issue.

In other news, young defender’s strong start to the season was influential in decision not to bring in player. Find out more here.
