According to an update from Record, Benfica club president Luis Filipe Vieira is refusing to hear offers for defender Ruben Dias and is adamant that As Águias will not sell – dealing a blow to Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy as the club consider him as a serious option.
As Spurs continue to look at star names over a potential swoop for their sixth summer signing, with a centre-back and striker on the wishlist ahead of a gruelling and congested 2020/2021 Premier League fixture calendar, it appears Dias looks more unlikely after this latest update.
Indeed, Dias was being considered according to various sources, with Sky Sports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming that the 6ft 2 colossus is a ‘serious option’ for Spurs.

As well as Romano, reliable Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold also claimed that he is a player Jose Mourinho really likes the look of, even as talks continue between Inter Milan and the Lilywhites over a deal for Milan Skriniar.
Now, with the Benfica president ruling out entertaining any offers for the player, once described as ‘fearless‘ by Brazilian footballing legend Carlos Mozer, Tottenham may have to look elsewhere as the rebuild continues.
Dias was a crucial player for Aguias over the 2019/2020 season, starting 33 games and completing an impressive 88.6% of his passes out from the back – all while averaging a solid 3.1 clearances per 90 (WhoScored).

The 19-cap international would have cost Levy a pretty penny considering his sky high £54.8 million valuation, but it appears now even a lucrative offer will not make Vieira budge.
