Tottenham Hotspur: Pundit drops Vinicius claim

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped Daniel Levy to sign Carlos Vinicius permanently in the summer, coming after his “brilliant” display in the FA Cup.

The 25-year-old Brazilian joined the north London club on a season-long loan from Portuguese top-flight side Benfica back in the summer transfer window. As explained in this report from Football Insider, this loan came with a £40.9m option to buy included.

Can you name these 10 former Spurs stars? Let's get started! Who is this?

What has Robinson said about the Tottenham Hotspur loanee?

Robinson, who played for Spurs from 2004 until 2008, has shared that he is convinced that Tottenham and Levy will splash out to sign the centre-forward permanently: “I think we will see him signed permanently.”

The ex-goalkeeper praised the Brazilian for how he’s performed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since joining on loan back in October and explained that “it is great for Jose Mourinho” to have the option of resting Harry Kane, stating that the recent development of his “brilliant” FA Cup hat-trick showed once and for all he is the perfect fit.

Robinson isn’t alone in valuing Vinicius, as fellow ex-Spurs man Peter Crouch described him as a “fantastic” player to be Kane’s deputy less than two months ago.

Transfer Tavern take

Vinicius is currently valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, which is significantly lower than the £40.9m it would cost Spurs to sign him permanently.

Additionally, although he’s clearly impressed the likes of Robinson and Crouch, the striker has made just nine appearances for Spurs this term, only two of which have come in the Premier League.

So, while he has developed at Tottenham to the point where he managed to bag a “brilliant” hat-trick versus Marine at the weekend, Vinicius’ price tag may be a bit too steep for a back-up striker, as this would make him the Lilywhites’ second-most-expensive signing of all time.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham’s decision-makers feel he is worth it.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has praised ENIC for how they’ve set up the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to maximise revenue.
