According to a report by Bild journalist Christian Falk, writing on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a swoop for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate – with Daniel Levy reportedly ‘informed’ and ‘interested’ alongside Manchester United and Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho’s desire for a transformative signing in the mould of Virgil van Dijk or Ruben Dias has been mentioned recently, coming as the Portuguese is also allegedly frustrated with his centre-back options (Evening Standard).
Tottenham eyeing Konate
Now, Falk has followed up on the Spurs boss’ wish to sign a centre-back – revealing that chairman Levy is keeping tabs on Konate ahead of a potential summer move.
Both United and Liverpool, who have defensive issues of their own to solve, are also said to be monitoring him – but if Spurs wish to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature, Levy will have to pay his €40 million (£35.4 million) release clause, which comes into effect this summer.

Given his plaudits and potential, there is little wonder why Spurs could turn to Konate – especially considering he has even been likened to Van Dijk (Bundesliga).
Indeed, the 6 foot 4 beast is said to be a commanding presence, but the only worry for Spurs could be his record of picking up injuries.
The 21-year-old has missed 44 matches for Leipzig through injury since October 2019 (Transfermarkt), and Tottenham could do better with a defensive target less susceptible to physical issues.
