Tottenham Hotspur: Darren Bent swoons as ‘perfect’ news emerges for Tottenham

Speaking to Football Insider, talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has swooned over defender Japhet Tanganga’s return to training, suggesting that it could be ‘perfect’ news for Spurs and manager Jose Mourinho.

Tanganga has been out of action recently with, what Mourinho describes as an ‘unlucky‘ injury – but after the club confirmed he is ready to resume training and be selected, Bent has gone wild over the update.

The 6ft colossus, who burst onto the scene for Tottenham last season, comes in as another viable option for Mourinho to help strengthen his back four.

Tanganga returns for Spurs

A versatile, young defender – Tanganga can play as both a right-back and a centre-back, providing much-needed cover if more regular first-team stars succumb to injury.

As a result, Bent is over the moon that he has returned to the fold and couldn’t overestimate his potential importance as a backup option from this point onwards.

“You can tell from the Amazon documentary, Mourinho really likes him,” explained the ex-Spurs forward.

“I thought he did really, really well when he came in, he was powerful.

“That’s good for Mourinho that he’s got that option there. It’s good because obviously, he can play right-back, left-back and down the middle at centre-half.

“The more options Mourinho has got is perfect for him because of the way they play.

“If you’re a Spurs supporter and you see the squad they’ve got down there, you’ve got to be excited because there’s no telling what this team can do.

“Especially this season where everybody is all over the place. Who knows? This could be their year!”

Transfer Tavern take

Judging by Bent’s verdict, and the fact Mourinho is aiming for a piece of Spurs silverware this season, Tanganga’s return could certainly be the ‘perfect’ boost at the perfect time.
