Tottenham Hotspur fans were disagreeing with Daniel Levy’s stance on the club’s progression under Jose Mourinho and about how they are run.
During a meeting between the respective boards of the club and the supporters’ trust, the chairman made it clear that there’s a DNA in the dressing room of bringing through youth and that keeping the philosophy is important. It also emerged that the 58-year-old thinks the north London outfit have a ‘different and unique character’ compared to other clubs. Given Levy’s comments, the appointment of Jose Mourinho proves to be an incredibly baffling one.
During the Portuguese coach’s time at Manchester United, he spent over £400m on players in just under three years, showing his desire to spend money (via Transfermarkt). The update on Levy’s stance regarding transfers and the ambitions of the club has left fans scratching their heads. Here are a selection of tweets from supporters:
yeah that’s probably why we’re the only club without a trophy in 12 years lmao

Almost every club has players come through the academy, it’s not that special. Of course we want to keep that identity but we can’t use it as an excuse to not invest.

The only thing unique is the distinct lack of trophies this approach brings 🙄

We get that. Now it’s time for the board to understand that the game has changed. You need to spend (right) to win now. It’s a fact
