Tottenham Hotspur: Fans go in on Toby Alderweireld after Burnley nightmare

Some Tottenham fans are not happy with Toby Alderweireld following his performance in the north London club’s 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday.

They have not held back, with one supporter adamant that the 31-year-old is on the “decline”. And given that display, it is not hard to see how he has come to that conclusion.

It certainly was not one of Alderweireld’s best outings, with WhoScored handing the Belgian a match rating of just 6.4. During the Premier League encounter at Turf Moor, he won just one tackle despite attempting four and was also dribbled past three times — no Tottenham player was beaten more often.

Conceding 21 shots in total, it was not a great day for Spurs’ defence as a whole. Still, Alderweireld could not have been happy with that display in central defence and will now be hoping to make amends when Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Germany to take on RB Leipzig in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League tie.
