Tottenham Hotspur beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at home in their FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday evening, setting up a tie against Southampton in the fourth round (BBC Sport).
On the whole, it was a positive evening for Jose Mourinho’s side, with several players producing solid displays. However, one man who wasn’t at his best was Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez and he came in for some stick on social media after the game.
The 23-year-old struggled at times against the Championship outfit and he actually failed to make a single successful tackle in the 90 minutes, whilst also winning just three of his seven aerial duels and being dribbled past on one occasion (SofaScore).
Sanchez only recently returned to the starting line-up after being left out against Southampton in the Premier League on New Year’s Day and against Boro in the initial match of their FA Cup tie (Transfermarkt). His position could be under threat once again for their game against Watford at the weekend following a disappointing display on Tuesday.
His below par performance certainly didn’t escape the notice of many Spurs fans, some of whom took to Twitter after the game to criticise the Colombia international with one supporter even describing his display as “awful”. Here is what some had to say…
Terrible player. A defender that doesn’t know what to do with a ball on his feet is a liability.

Would not be unhappy if they sold him… Would not get the money back though

He’s been awful. I really don’t see what others do.
