Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on social media to a tweet shared by the North London outfit’s official account, throwing back to Heung-Min Son scoring his first Premier League goal four years ago.
But while many focused on the strike itself, a select few reflected on Christian Eriksen’s involvement in the build-up to it, with one Spurs fan noting the energy he showed on that day against Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane.
Lots of Tottenham supporters were livid with the Dane during the week for his involvement in the Champions League tie away to Olympiacos, with one (via Football.London) suggesting he created more for the Greek side than he did for Spurs.
Another questioned whether the 27-year-old’s head was in the game ‘at all’, as the 90-cap international ended the midweek clash with a 78% pass accuracy rating, fashioned zero shots, failed his only attempted dribble and was dispossessed twice – the joint-most of any Spurs man with Davinson Sanchez, according to WhoScored data.
Four years ago, though, Eriksen picked the ball up in the centre of the field at White Hart Lane, drifted forward with possession, before passing the play on to Son, who ran at Brede Hangeland before firing a left-footed effort through the legs of Alex McCarthy and into the bottom corner of the Palace net.
Son has since gone on to score 69 times for Tottenham across all competitions, while penning 37 assists (TransferMarkt), with his best Premier League campaign in front of the net coming in 2016/17 when he hit 14 – the South Korean struck 12 in the ’17/18 and ’18/19 terms.
