Tottenham Hotspur have made preliminary contact with Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana over a potential transfer in the summer transfer window, that is according to L’Equipe (via Get France Football News).
It is suggested that the shot-stopper will be allowed to leave the Amsterdam based club in the off-season by Director General Edwin van der Sar and Sporting Director Marc Overmars.
By the time the summer arrives, Onana will have just 24 months left on his contract and as a result, it is reported that Ajax will allow him to leave for around €30 million (£26.1 million). However, Spurs aren’t the only club interested in him with Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and Barcelona also named as potential destinations.
The 24-year-old Cameroonian international has been a regular between the sticks for the Dutch outfit this season, featuring 39 times in all competitions and keeping a total of 15 clean sheets (Transfermarkt). He could well be a potential replacement in north London for Hugo Lloris, with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho may allow him to leave (Ricky Sacks).
However, it seems that lots of Tottenham fans aren’t too keen on signing Onana, with several taking to Twitter to air their views. Here is what some had to say…
Why would we downgrade?

This guy is awful, one of the reasons we went through in semi last season…stay away

He was terrible against us in both UCL games last season….his distribution makes Lloris look like Pirlo!

Don’t rate him. Good shot stopper but liable for mistakes. He cost Ajax that second Moura goal jumping on the ball as the defender went to clear it.

No thanks, only good with his feet, bang average shot stopping and makes too many errors

Would be a huge call by Jose to sell Lloris for this guy on the evidence of the UCL semi. Personally rather keep Hugo
