Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani has been mooted as a potential transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur this month, that is according to a report from the Independent.
Spurs are likely to be looking for a new striker this month after it was revealed last week that Harry Kane would be missing until at least April after having surgery on a hamstring injury he sustained against Southampton on New Year’s Day (tottenhamhotspur.com).
Several names have already been mentioned in the media as potential replacements for Kane, most notably Krzysztof Piatek with Sky Sports reporting last week that Tottenham and AC Milan had held talks about the Polish international.
Cavani is the latest name that has been linked with the north London club, perhaps due to the fact that he is out of favour at PSG these days due to both injuries and the arrival of Mauro Icardi. Indeed, he has featured just nine times in Ligue 1 and has started just four matches (Transfermarkt).
He is, though, a player with a great goalscoring record, netting 339 goals so far in his club career including 198 for PSG (Transfermarkt). It is probably because of that immense record that many Spurs fans would love for something to come of the reports linking him with a move to them this month.
Indeed several have taken to Twitter to admit that they would love for the 32-year-old to sign for Tottenham, here is what some had to say…
Now that would be an exciting loan to take up Kane’s position
