Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to Kalidou Koulibaly transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur are in frequent contact with Napoli regarding the signing of centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, that is according to a report from Corriere del Mezzogiorno, via Ricky Sacks.

The 28-year-old has been a regular for the Italian side this season, starting in 13 Serie A fixtures and in all six of their Champions League group stage matches (Transfermarkt).

However, it is thought that the Senegalese isn’t happy in Naples and according to football.london he has asked to leave in the winter window.

Spurs could certainly do with a new defender given their defensive struggles this season, indeed they have conceded 30 goals in the Premier League in just 21 games (BBC Sport).

One of their centre-back options, Jan Vertonghen, is also out of contract in the summer and Koulibaly could well be a replacement for him if he was brought in.

Statistically the Senegal international has outperformed the Belgian this season. He has averaged 2.6 tackles and 2.8 clearances per game whilst also only losing possession 7.9 times per match (SofaScore), whereas Vertonghen makes 2.4 tackles and 2.7 clearances and loses possession 12.6 times (SofaScore).

Koulibaly would certainly be a popular signing amongst the Spurs faithful and after reading that the club are in contact with Napoli many have urged them to get a deal done.
