Tottenham Hotspur: Fans rip into Kieran Trippier’s latest comments about the club

Former Tottenham star Kieran Trippier has come under heavy fire from a number of Spurs fans after blaming the club for forcing him to miss several games for Atletico Madrid, according to The Daily Mirror via @thespursweb.

Trippier claims Tottenham allegedly delayed surgery that forced him to miss seven matches for Los Rojiblancos.

The England international was a favourite of Mauricio Pochettino, but fell out of favour with the Argentine after struggling for form.

Speaking to Steve Bates, the right-back lashed out at the club’s hierarchy, saying “I should have had it last season at Spurs but people didn’t want me to have it then.

“I had so many issues with the last season there and about the way I performed and struggled with injuries.”

He concluded “it got to a point where I had to have surgery this season and really I should have had it done last season.”

After arriving at White Hart Lane from Burnley back in 2015 for £4.41m, the 29-year-old made 114 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 2 goals and creating 24 assists in total.

He finally moved to the Wanda Metropolitano for £21.7m last summer, bringing his four-year-spell at the North London club to an end.

The defender has played in 19 games in La Liga for Diego Simeone’s side, providing 3 assists, making 2.2 tackles per game, averaging 1.1 interceptions, and completing 1.6 clearances on average via WhoScored.

Nonetheless, it seems lots of supporters haven’t forgotten the disappointing end to his Tottenham career.

Indeed, he infamously scored an own goal during the 2-0 derby defeat away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Understandably, many Spurs fans ripped into the “terrible” ex-player’s latest comments, with one supporter angrily exclaiming “you cost us points.”
