According to an update by Tottenham journalist Charlie Eccleshare on Twitter, Spurs outcast and midfielder Dele Alli is ‘in contention’ to start for Jose Mourinho’s side against Royal Antwerp on Thursday, with the journalist claiming ‘things can change very quickly’.
Alli, who has been left out of the last two matchday squads in the Premier League by Mourinho, missing both the 3-3 draw against West Ham and the 1-0 away win at Burnley, could now be set to feature again for Spurs in the Europa League.
Alli back in the fold
Indeed, writing on social media, The Athletic correspondent Eccleshare has shared that Alli is back in Mourinho’s plans and in contention to start for the Lilywhites against Antwerp.
Dele part of #THFC travelling party to Antwerp, + in contention to start. If he doesn’t 5 subs means decent chance of minutes.
Feels like fall from grace, but as Ndombele + GLC have shown things can change under Jose v quickly. Or look at how Lamela has fought way into the team

Fellow journalist Alasdair Gold had his say over the saga, claiming that Harry Kane’s role in the team could be keeping Alli from working his way into Mourinho’s plans, with the striker capable of dropping back to assist with build-up play.
As a result, the 24-year-old has found it difficult to work his way into contention, but Eccleshare has now revealed that he could play for Spurs again on Thursday.
Transfer Tavern take
Former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown explained earlier this month that Mourinho thought Alli was ‘excellent’ in training, with the manager now looking to bring him back into the fold (Football Insider).
Given what he could bring to the table, handing Alli a runout could be a potentially fruitful move by the Spurs manager.
