Speaking in a press conference, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Eric Dier is injured whilst also hinting that he will ‘have to change’ in regards to tactics surrounding the Englishman.
Should Eric Dier continue at centre-back when he returns?
Yes, no brainer
Dier, who has been favoured at centre-back alongside the rotating Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld, will now miss Spurs’ clash against West Ham United on Sunday due to a fresh hamstring ‘problem‘.
Dier blow for Mourinho
New signing Joe Rodon missed the noon cut off yesterday to make his debut for Spurs this weekend, leaving it likely that Mourinho will be forced to deploy a partnership of Alderweireld and Sanchez.
Tottenham players return from international duty fresh and raring to go, with superstar Gareth Bale potentially making his debut against the Hammers this weekend.
However, they will have to contend without the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Japhet Tanganga and now Dier – but judging by Spurs’ 6-1 thrashing of Man United the other week, supporters are unlikely to lose too much sleep.
Bearing that in mind, Mourinho will want to build on that performance with every available talent at his disposal, and the Portuguese does seem to admire Dier as part of the centre-back pairing.
Transfer Tavern take
Described as ‘exceptional’ by Sky Sports pundit and Lilywhites favourite Ledley King, the 26-year-old has been attracting mixed reviews from critics and supporters alike in his makeshift defensive role.
Now, as West Ham looms, Mourinho looks as if he’ll have to adapt without the international’s presence as part of a stable back four.
If reports are correct over hamstring trouble, the signing of Rodon couldn’t have come at a better time.
