Speaking in a press conference, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out a late return to the squad for superstar signing Gareth Bale against Liverpool – hinting that it is unlikely but not totally impossible depending on developments.
As it stands, there has been no more updates on the Welshman from Hotspur Way as the Lilywhites prepare for, arguably, their toughest test of the season so far at Anfield.
If Gareth Bale is available, should he start against Liverpool?
Yes, he hurt them in the past
No, Bergwijn offers more at the moment
Mourinho refuses to rule out Bale return
The Real Madrid loanee, who missed Tottenham’s weekend trip to Crystal Palace through illness, not coronavirus related, could also be absent from Spurs’ squad to face Liverpool this evening according to Mourinho.
Shedding light on Bale to the press, the Portuguese gaffer confirmed that his involvement is unlikely but has refused to rule out a shock return to the squad – depending on how he fared in Tuesday training.
Transfer Tavern take
There has been no update on the attacker’s condition since then, and with this crunch clash on the horizon, it’s safe to say many Spurs supporters would prefer to have the ‘phenomenal‘ 31-year-old as an option given his exploits against the Reds in past seasons.
Tottenham have a nearly fully fit squad for Liverpool, meanwhile Jurgen Klopp’s men have to cope with various problems, including the loss of in-form summer signing Diogo Jota.
If Bale were to return tonight, his presence either as a starter or from the bench would undoubtedly add another dimension to Mourinho’s options.
As Spurs aim to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League pile, they may need all the help they can get.
