Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Kevin Campbell has claimed that Dele Alli needs to play either elsewhere or for Jose Mourinho - going on to say that him sitting on the sidelines is a 'huge waste of talent'.

Alli, who burst on to the scene half a decade ago for Spurs, has since been omitted by Mourinho on numerous occasions in his first full campaign in charge at Hotspur Way.

A favourite under ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino, the Lilywhites manager seems to prefer the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele in the central attacking midfield roles. Alli has barely been seen on a Premier League pitch recently, being left out of the squad entirely at times and playing just 67 minutes in the top flight.

The Englishman's last appearance for Tottenham came last week during a 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp in Belgium, where he was hooked at half time in an effort from Mourinho to seize control of the tie.

Campbell urges playing time for Alli

Now, speaking to Football Insider, Campbell has claimed that Alli needs to play and him sitting on the sidelines is a huge waste of talent.

“Dele Alli has been a mainstay under Pochettino for the glory times at Spurs, wins everything but trophies and he’s looked the part," explained the pundit.

“Are they asking him to do things he’s not happy with? Is it a clash of personalities? Maybe it’s a clash of personalities.

“Dele Alli is a good player, he’s a really good player but if he’s not playing he’s got to go somewhere and play because Dele Alli not playing is a huge waste of talent.”

Transfer Tavern take

Indeed, given Euro 2021 is right around the corner, Alli featuring regularly is a necessity for the player and Mourinho needs to find a way to utilise the midfielder.

Either that, or a loan move away could suit both parties, with the player currently wasted on the sidelines having been 'excellent in training'.
