According to a report courtesy of football.london journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham did in fact consider Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window but ultimately failed to make a move – and the Lilywhites have arguably been left ruing what might have been a real Spurs coup.
As manager Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge lingers, with the 2020/2021 Premier League campaign starting in just under a fortnight, Spurs are on the hunt for a striker who can provide support for superstar Harry Kane.
Gold, writing for football.london, has claimed that Bournemouth attackers Callum Wilson and Joshua King appear the most likely to be on Tottenham’s agenda for next season whilst revealing Spurs’ past stance on Giroud.

Indeed, the Frenchman was being looked at, but the club failed to pounce – resulting in the west Londoners eventually tying him down with a new deal until 2021 back in April.
At one point, Spurs appeared to have all the bargaining power, with just six months remaining on the 33-year-old’s contract at the beginning of the year – having made just five Premier League appearances at that point.
However, Tottenham’s lack of action resulted in the ‘excellent‘ 6ft 3 target man giving Jan Vertonghen nightmares during a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in February – potentially rubbing salt in the wound.

Proven in the top flight with 86 goals to his name for both rivals Arsenal and the Blues combined (Transfermarkt), the £110,000-per-week star arguably could have provided that injection of attacking quality behind Kane.
Whether or not Spurs will bag their perfect back-up forward this window remains to be seen, but the evidence suggests Giroud could have been that man.
