According to Tuttosport, Jose Mourinho has identified Mike Maignan as Tottenham’s top target, via @thespursweb.
Spurs are keen to sign Maignan as an eventual replacement for Hugo Lloris. Mourinho plans to make him a second-choice to his compatriot, who in turn would be gradually phased out and replaced by Maignan in the end.
The Lilywhites have been linked to the Frenchman for a number of months.
Earlier this year, The Sun claimed the Lille keeper has attracted admirers across the Premier League, including Mourinho’s old club Manchester United.
After arriving at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy from Paris Saint-Germain, the 24-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest talents, and he has played 28 games in Ligue 1 for Christopher Galtier’s side, conceding 1 goal per game, keeping 12 clean sheets, and making 2.1 saves on average (SofaScore).
Meanwhile, his compatriot has arguably struggled for consistency this season, as he has only kept 2 clean sheets in the Premier League at the time of writing. However, Lloris has still earned himself a higher SofaScore rating than the young goalkeeper.
The uncapped Frenchman is valued at £15.75m via Transfermarkt, and it is unlikely Mourinho will splash the cash in the summer, as he will have to juggle a squad overhaul with limited resources.
Understandably, lots of Spurs fans discussed Maignan’s transfer link on social media, with one tweeting “what a joke,” and another adding it is “pointless” given the restricted budget available. Meanwhile, others were quite keen on the idea of signing the shot stopper.
