Manchester United have reportedly told Spurs to keep them updated on the future of Christian Eriksen as questions around the Dane’s future continue to be asked (The Mail Online).
It was first reported just days after Tottenham’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool that the midfielder was ready to leave the club for a new challenge and even cited Real Madrid as a potential destination.
But since then things have gone a little quiet – especially given it was initially reported that chairman Daniel Levy was valuing him at £130m.
There was some rumoured interest from Atletico Madrid to take the 27-year-old away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but they seem to have decided to go with James Rodriguez instead.
The former Ajax man signed for the Lilywhites back in 2013 for £11.5m and has played 277 times for the north London outfit, contributing 66 goals and 86 assists.
Undoubtedly, the numbers Eriksen has posted since joining the Premier League are impressive – those 86 assists in particular prove his worth to Tottenham.
However, with that being said, if the Giovani Lo Celso deal is finalised by Spurs, he is a man who scored more goals than Eriksen last season and also attempted two dribbles per game – compared with 0.3 for the Scandinavian (via WhoScored).
In relation to passing, club record signing Tanguy Ndombele produced a pass completion rate in the league of more than 8 per cent higher than the Tottenham playmaker.
The Frenchman also managed more passes, tackles and interceptions.
So, it would seem as though Ndombele carries out the defensive roles of a central midfielder more effectively, while Lo Celso carries out some of the attacking roles in a creative and positive way.
And with a £70m price tag now on the head of the Dane, coupled with the fact that they have a younger attacking midfielder in Dele Alli who has also predominantly played in the role behind the striker, Spurs fans should not feel afraid if the club do decide to cash in.
