Jose Mourinho’s first home game in charge of his new side certainly didn’t disappoint and, while it wasn’t a night for the defence having shipped two goals, Toby Alderweireld’s message for the supporters on Twitter saw fans on social media move to beg him to stay.

As has been well documented, the Belgian star is out of contract at the end of the season and the Daily Mail had previously reported that he was willing to wind his deal down and assess his options in the summer when he could leave for free. However, following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, there were suggestions from the Daily Mirror that he could extend his contract in north London.

While the 30-year-old, valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, was in and out of the side under Pochettino, he’s started both games under Mourinho, who reportedly wanted to sign him while in charge of Manchester United last year. As per WhoScored, the former Atletico Madrid man has made the third-highest number of interceptions in the Spurs squad per Premier League game this season and leads the way in terms of clearances made.

So, with that in mind, here’s a look at how fans begged him to stay last night.
