Tottenham’s forgotten man, Victor Wanyama, has come in for some criticism following a poor performance for Kenya last night.
The former Southampton midfielder played 90 minutes for his nation, who drew 1-1 with Togo in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Wanyama has played just 24 minutes in all competitions for Tottenham this season and hasn’t even been included in the north London club’s matchday squad for their previous five league games (via Transfermarkt).
The 28-year-old finds himself behind Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko and even 19-year-old Oliver Skipp in the pecking order for a spot in Tottenham’s midfield, with his career in north London seemingly coming to its end.
He almost left the club in the summer to join Belgian outfit Club Brugge, though a move did not materialise upon the closure of the summer transfer window and he remained put. Celtic are now thought to be exploring the possibility of taking their former midfielder back on loan in January.
It appears that Wanyama’s lack of action at club level has massively affected his international form, with last night’s abysmal display summing up a miserable period for the midfielder.
