Tottenham Hotspur may be in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, however, you can not help but feel a sense of disappointment about the fact that the club continue to struggle in terms of obtaining success in domestic competition.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to make a number of changes to his squad in the summer, with a number of players possibly leaving to try and raise funds for potential additions, which could be exactly what he tries to do with one of his current players.

According to a report by Football.London, Tottenham are expected to trigger an option in Fernando Llorente’s contract for another year, but only to be able to command a transfer fee for him in the summer.
The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire in the summer and Spurs are understood to be keen to receive funds for him to be able to bolster their attacking ranks.
The Verdict:
Llorente’s future in north London remains very unclear at the moment and it would be extremely unlikely for Tottenham to try and keep him beyond the summer transfer window. However, it would not be a surprise to see the club try and make some money from a potential sale than rather risk losing him for nothing.
The 34-year-old has failed to make an impact since joining from Swansea City in 2017 in a £12million deal, having scored just 12 goals across all competitions. Admittedly, he has been used rather sparingly, however, his performances and contributions at times have raised concerns about whether Spurs will be able to continue to compete with him leading the line in the potential absence of Harry Kane.
Despite his struggles, Llorente could be a player that could fetch the club a fair transfer fee in the summer, whilst fans will unlikely be disappointed to see him leave should an offer come in for him.
However, if Tottenham decide to trigger the contract extension, it could backfire on them in a rather bad way as they may be stuck with the veteran forward if clubs decide against making an offer for him and they may not be in the position to bring some much-needed attacking reinforcements to help them compete in domestic competition.
