But now at 23 years old, he is set to make a return to the top level with Spurs and Atleti.
He has shone under Slaven Bilic at Besiktas which has caught the attention of Mauricio Pochettino, who is looking for more attacking options.
But Spurs will have to make a decision quick as the La Liga champions sent out scouts as plot their bid in the region of £12m.
If the Premier League side do land the winger then that will make Aaron Lennon’s future at the club look even bleak, with the former England international currently out on loan at Everton.
