Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are happy that their club have turned their attention to other targets after losing out on West Ham’s Winston Reid as the Daily Telegraph revealed they are now interested in Southampton’s star defender Toby Alderweireld, who is on loan from Atletico Madrid.
Initially, Spurs had set their sights on landing the Hammers’ New Zealand defender on a free transfer at the end of the season, but instead, he chose to sign a six-and-a-half-year contract to keep him at Upton Park.
Which has forced Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy to look elsewhere as they look to transform this current Spurs side into convincing top four contenders.
And now heading into the summer they are hoping to land Alderweireld, after a string of impressive displays for Southampton.
Something which gives the North London club hope that they can sign the 26-year-old Belgian is his buy-out clause of just £1.5 million.
Manchester United and Manchester City are both also eyeing a move, but Tottenham will hope they can beat them to their man.
Spurs fans over by the pool table in the Transfer Tavern are excited about the thought of this deal, with many of them hoping then can conclude a deal in the summer.
