Tottenham should consider offering cash plus £2.25m-rated star to secure Grealish deal

Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the 2018/19 Premier League season, what with Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane having signed long-term deals with the club.

Argentine Pochettino took over as Spurs boss back in 2014 after impressing at Southampton, and he has since transformed the North London outfit into one of the best teams in the country with three successive top four finishes in the Premier League. And 24-year-old Kane has become one of the best strikers in the world in the last few years in netting 140 goals in 213 games for Tottenham, with his staggering tally of 41 this term his best season-return to date.

Consequently, there are many excited and expectant Spurs fans in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports linking Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish with a £15 million move to the North London club.

But with the Championship side holding out for more, Tottenham may have to offer a player plus cash to seal a deal for the 22-year-old, with £2.25 million-rated goalkeeper Michel Vorm (as per Transfermarkt) the man they should part with to get a deal done.

Ultimately, the 34-year-old has long been Hugo Lloris’ understudy at Spurs ever since he made the move from Swansea City back in 2014, with the Netherlands international mustering just 43 appearances for Tottenham in the last four years.

And given Frenchman Lloris was far from his best for much of this campaign, and Pochettino still opted for him over Vorm, it’s pretty clear that the 34-year-old will remain as the club’s number two goalkeeper this season, whereas the chance to be number one at Villa could appeal to the Dutchman.

Clearly, Steve Bruce’s side face an uncertain summer given recent revelations detailing huge financial issues, which looks set to put pay to their chances of sealing a deal for on-loan star Sam Johnstone, who excelled between the sticks for the Villans this season.

And with few alternative options for Bruce to choose from were the Manchester United shot-stopper to return to Old Trafford, he will surely be on the lookout for someone to come in and don the number one jersey – Vorm could be that man.

Yes, Villa will obviously not want to sell one of their prized assets in Grealish, and certainly not on the cheap, but the position the club are in financially doesn’t give them a great deal of strength in negotiations, even more so with the tough negotiator that is Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

So receiving a goalkeeper in the calibre of Vorm alongside £15 million for Grealish could be something worth considering, and as such should be an offer Tottenham seek to make in the near future in a bid to lure the talented Englishman to North London.
