According to The Daily Mail, Daniel Levy made an enquiry for Erling Haaland in February this year as he pre-empted Harry Kane’s desire to leave Tottenham.
The Lowdown: Kane drops Spurs bombshell
On Monday, Kane confirmed his desire to leave Spurs by handing in a transfer request (Sky Sports), which will no doubt come as a huge blow to Daniel Levy.

If the 27-year-old does leave the Lilywhites in the summer, Tottenham must replace him with a truly top-quality centre-forward, something which is difficult to come by.
The Latest: Levy enquired about Haaland
It seems that Levy was already preparing for the England international’s departure earlier this year, though, as Sportsmail claim the club have accepted for some time Kane is likely to leave, already plotting their list of possible replacements.
It has been reported that Spurs made an enquiry for Dortmund star Haaland as far back as February. However, they were put off by the Norwegian’s salary demands of £350,000 a week, a considerable increase on the £141,000 he currently earns (salarysport.com).
Gabriel Jesus and Anthony Martial could also be targets if Kane makes his way to Manchester, with Levy’s Kane replacement plan clearly to sign a young player with big potential.
The Verdict: Dreaming
If Kane does leave, Tottenham will be desperate for a replacement, and there are few forwards in world football who are playing at the level of Haaland right now. Over the last one-and-a-half seasons, the 20-year-old has scored 55 goals in 58 games for Die Schwarzgelben (Transfermarkt) – a record even Kane can’t match across the same period.

Unfortunately, though, there are a whole host of clubs interested in Haaland’s services, including Chelsea and Manchester City (The Mirror). The latter are the Premier League champions, while the former are in the Champions League final against the Citizens, which will be played later this month.
Both of those teams are better propositions right now, and are likely to be able to offer more attractive financial packages and guaranteed European football. Signing Haaland was just a pipe dream for Tottenham, but it is certainly nice to see Levy has high ambitions in the hunt for what could be his most crucial signing ever.
